Dr L Murugan was appointed as a Union Minister of State when Prime Minister Narendra Modi overhauled and expanded his Cabinet earlier this month. But his dramatic stand up the political ladder has had no impact on his mother and father who stay in Konur village – 15 km from Namakkal city in Tamil Nadu.
His aged mom Varudammal continues to clear weeds within the fields together with different labourers, whereas his father Loganatham takes out the sheep for grazing. They don’t have any plans of touring to Delhi and are pleased to work and earn their livelihood.
Along a slender avenue, the couple’s humble home stands out with a BJP flag fluttering on a pole on the roof.
Dr Murugan had studied within the village faculty and later shifted to the district’s Paramathi city for larger research earlier than shifting to Chennai to pursue a level in regulation.
“We are proud that we farm. We made him a minister by way of farming. We shouldn’t depart it. So I hold working,” Mr Loganatham instructed NDTV.
Their minister son is but to go to them since his elevation. The final time he got here dwelling was when he was made the state president of the BJP. His father had visited him in Chennai lately.
“He left for Delhi earlier than I may greet him for turning into a minister. I visited him and returned to take care of my work. I’ll see him when he comes again,” Mr Loganathan added.
“I spoke to my son and daughter-in-law on the cellphone. They instructed me they’re doing nicely. They give us cash for our bills and take excellent care of us. We are pleased and don’t have any issues,” Varudammal instructed NDTV .
Dr L Murugan practiced as a lawyer for over 15 years. He has served because the vice-chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes.
He was made the state BJP chief after his predecessor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan was appointed because the Governor of Telangana.
Although Dr L Murugan misplaced the lately concluded Assembly elections within the state, he was hand-picked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be a Union Minister of State within the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
